YMD formerly known as Youthworks

A evening youth ministry course called ‘Youthworks’ was set up in the early 1990s as a training facility for volunteer and paid youth ministers.

From its earliest days Youthworks partnered with youth ministry agencies such as Scripture Union, 3Rock Youth and Dublin Christian Mission as well as a broad number of churches from around Dublin.

Since 2007 the Youthworks director has been providing teaching faculty for the Irish Bible Institute’s Youth Ministry modules. This meant that the Youthworks training facility lay dormant for a number of years.

Over the years an increasing number of churches have sought to add Youth Ministry to their list of ministry activities, engaging the help of part-time or full-time youth ministry personnel. Access to training, however, has been fairly limited, whether due to geography, lack of funding or lack of training options.

To help address this deficit and to provide training across the island of Ireland, Youthworks began expanding in 2017.

Youthworks becomes YMD

From 2017 Youthworks has been operating under the new name of Youth Ministry Development — YMD. This new name reflects both the nature of work with young people – ‘Ministry’ rather than simply ‘work’ – and the need for on-going growth locally and nationally – ‘Development’.

YMD now provides training locally around the country, along with support and mentoring, while continuing to provide training in IBI.
